The role of TIES is to assist tourism students and workers in finding suitable internships or job attachments for their career development. In addition, it provides orientation, local supervision of the intern or worker, assistance with airport pickup and finding suitable accommodation. Internships are generally a three-month duration while job attachments are for a one-month period. TIES also provides a limited number of scholarships to interns or tourism workers from any of the CARIFORUM countries. A full scholarship covers round trip airfare, a stipend, room and board and health insurance.
Who can benefit from TIES
Tourism/hospitality students at the tertiary level of the education system as well as tourism workers in at least a supervisory capacity can benefit from this programme. Applicants must go through a selection process, which is administered by the national coordinators of each participating country. They must satisfy a set of criteria set out by the programme before they can be accepted for an internship or job attachment.
The Council has committed to the strengthening of TIES through the Caribbean Tourism Learning System Project (CTLSP) being funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) through the Caribbean Regional HRD Programme for Economic Competitiveness (CPEC).
